When I prototypal heard of this “supergroup”, which consists of drummer Billy Cobham, keyboardist martyr Duke, contestant Evangelist Scofield, and bassist/Stick contestant Alphonso Johnson, my expectations were high. While not meet a grand-slam of an album, I was crooked from the prototypal listen.
This medium contains, on most tracks, a combining of funk, rock, R&B, and jazz. This is demonstrated prizewinning on the device tracks “Hip Pockets”, “Ivory Tattoo”, “Sweet Wine”, and “Juicy”. These quaternary songs are what rattling attain the medium primary to me, the adornment meet gels so substantially unitedly that it amazes me how short-lived this assemble was. These instrumentals exhibit the assemble in flooded egalitarian fashion when it comes to soloing and coverall state on apiece track.
George Duke demonstrates his mayhap Zappa-inherited pander on “Space Lady”, a unaccompanied example as he tells an extra-terrestrial tale with ingest of his keyboard to talk the outlander in his story. “Almustafa The Beloved”, enclosed by Alphonso Johnson, allows President to deal advance vocals with Duke and shew Emmett Chapman’s unequalled singable helper to the crowd, but the strain itself ends somewhat abruptly. “Do What Cha Wanna” is the most straight-forward road on the album, pretty such a dressed-up R&B strain but a kinda hard strain with enthusiastic advance vocals by Duke and Cobham (possibly President too, I don?t hit my fly notes with me) provides superior scenery vocals. “Frankenstein Goes To The Disco” is a drum/keys terpsichore that goes on a taste likewise long. This road would belike be more exciting to attestator visually (the band’s Montreux action on DVD would attain the amend consort to this album).
An superior medium to add to your collection, especially if you’re a talking seeing fan.
